It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Lewis Brown, who departed this life on April 17, 2025, in Lake Mary, Florida at the age of 82. Born in a log cabin in Somerset, Kentucky, on December 3, 1942, Wayne was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother known for his kind spirit, generous heart, and warm smile.
After working on the family farm in Somerset, Wayne initially held jobs with the state highway department and a salvage yard. Wayne worked 49 years at Publishers Printing Company, and at the time he retired, was a valuable resource on the Pressroom Special Operations team.
A man of deep faith, Wayne was active at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where he brought Communion to the home bound on Sundays and often assisted during Mass.
Wayne enjoyed taking walks in the countryside, watching Louisville Cardinals football and basketball, and fishing. He could also be found reading western novels, usually with a cat on his lap. He also enjoyed building bluebird boxes and following the fledglings out of the nest. But what he most enjoyed was spending time with his family.
He was the loving husband of Martha Mora for fifteen years. Wayne was previously married to Selma Mae Dalton, and from that marriage, he was the father of Anthony Wayne Brown who is married to Michelle Pack-Brown.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Martha, his son Anthony, his daughter-in-law Michelle, his grandchildren Xanthippe, Antonia, and Persephone, his siblings, Hilda Vanistendael, Bernell Norfleet, Ray Brown, who is married to Wavaleen, Dwight Brown, Janet Forman, who is married to Tom, Sue Wilson, who is married to Bill, and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and many friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Selma Mae Dalton, his parents, George Lewis Brown and Selma Hudson, his niece Mary Jane Willard, and nephews Paulford Lewis Dillie, Travis Brown, and Steve Forman.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Maraman Billings Funeral Home, located at 605 South Preston Hwy in Shepherdsville, KY. Following the visitation, a funeral Mass will take place at 1 PM at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, located at 187 Plum Street, Shepherdsville, KY. Burial will take place at Brookland Cemetery on 4897 North Preston Highway, Shepherdsville, KY, following the Mass. There will be a dinner at St. Aloysius Catholic Church after the burial.
Wayne will be remembered for his joyful spirit, compassion and welcoming smile.
