**Obituary for Mrs. Verna Cooper**

Mrs. Verna Cooper, aged 92, of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on July 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born to Rudolf and Virginia Elisa (Wittwer) Mathys, she was a cherished member of the first generation of immigrant parents from Basel, Switzerland.

Verna was a talented artisan, whose passions included sewing and quilting. She created beautiful hand-stitched quilts, tablecloths, and wall hangings that brought joy to many. In addition, she found delight in collecting Hallmark ornaments and antiques, reflecting her appreciation for artistry and history.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Charles W. Cooper, as well as her parents, her sisters Judy Johnson, Eloise Stallings, and Marjorie Gentry, her brothers Lee and Freddy Mathys, and her nephew Allen Gentry.

A proud graduate of Fern Creek High School in 1951, Verna dedicated 42 years of her life as a supervisor at Colgate Palmolive before her retirement.

Verna’s memory will be cherished by her loving nieces—Cheri Johnson (Greg), Gale Etherton (Eddie), Janice Bleemel (Eddie), Debbie Wilson (Alan), Sue Pate (Butch), Angie Snook (Tim), and Missy Raymer—as well as her nephew Wayne Gentry (Sandy) and many great-nieces and nephews who carry her legacy forward.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Association in memory of her loved ones.

A private burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery on Monday, July 21, 2025,. Arrangements are being handled by Maraman Billings Funeral Home in Shepherdsville, Kentucky.

Verna Cooper will be remembered for her loving spirit, creativity, and the warmth she brought to all those who knew her.
