Sherman Ray Tinnell, Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, and esteemed member of the Shepherdsville community, passed away on August 26, 2025, at Norton Audubon Hospital. Born on August 15, 1940, in Shepherdsville, KY, Sherman lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and profession.
For over three decades, he was the owner and operator of Tinnell Painting, specializing in residential projects. Sherman's work ethic and meticulous attention to detail emerged as hallmarks of his craft, earning him respect and admiration in the community. His commitment to quality was mirrored in every facet of his life.
Beyond his career, Sherman was a faithful member of Mt. Eden Baptist Church but maintained strong ties to Bullitt Lick Baptist Church, where he shared God’s Word with his church family. He was also a member of Gideons International, embracing his role as a Christian businessman committed to spreading the Gospel, with the unwavering support of his devoted wife and children.
Sherman’s love for music shone brightly throughout his life as a country music recording artist. His album, "Sherman Tinnell Sings Solid Country," showcased his talent, and he enjoyed performing alongside the Kentucky Travelers while also producing solo tracks.
His contributions to the community extended into local governance when he held the position of Mayor for the City of Shepherdsville, serving two separate terms from 1994-1998 and again from 2007-2010. He dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the people, development, and enhancement of the city, demonstrating a sincere commitment to fostering future growth for all its residents.
Sherman will be remembered as a devoted husband to Sheila Lynn Flener Tinnell, his partner of more than 33 years. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his children: Ray Tinnell (Diana), Barry Tinnell, Destiny Bates (Christian), and Michael Tinnell, as well as 17 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren who cherished him deeply.
Sherman was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Molly Crump and George Tinnell, and his son Dale Tinnell, as well as siblings Geneva Ratchford, Bonnie Masden, Lucille Tinnell, Georgia Jackson, Sharon Tinnell, Darnell Travis, Rita Maraman, and Sandra Ryan. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of many who knew and loved him.
Visitation will take place at Maraman Billings Funeral Home in Shepherdsville, KY, on September 3, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on September 4, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. A final visitation will occur on September 5, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Sherman will then be laid to rest at Vine Hill Cemetery in Clermont, KY, with the burial commencing at 12:45 PM.
Sherman Ray Tinnell, Sr. will be remembered not only for his numerous achievements but for his unwavering faith, love for family, and his contributions to the community he so dearly loved. He leaves behind a lasting impact that will continue to inspire and guide those who carry his memory forward.
