Mary Charlene Allen, a beloved mother, grandmother "Granny", and friend, passed away on January 30, 2026, at Norton Audubon Hospital, leaving behind a legacy defined by her warmth, generosity, and kindness. Born on November 25, 1943, Mary touched the lives of many during her time on earth, leaving an indelible mark on her family and friends.
Mary dedicated a significant part of her life to her career as a retired machine operator for General Shale. Beyond her career, she proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, a testament to her strong character and commitment to serving her country.
A person of deep faith, Mary was a devoted member of Mt. Eden Baptist Church and more recently attended services at Mill Creek Baptist. Her spirituality imbued her life with purpose, and she found joy in the old bluegrass hymns and gospel music that echoed through her home.
Mary was known for her infectious laugh, often lightening the mood with her humor and sharp wit. She kept herself engaged with crossword puzzles, Scrabble, and jigsaw puzzles, always finding ways to challenge her mind and keep herself busy. Her love for Bingo was a cherished pastime, reflecting her vibrant spirit.
Above all, Mary cherished the time spent with her family. She was a devoted mother to her children: Tammy Jones and her husband Brud, Thomas "Tommy" Allen and his wife Mary, Jimmy Allen and his wife Jessica, and Sheila Ford and her husband Tim. Her grandchildren—Shawn Ford, Hannah Coomer, Kristan Spurling, Justin Allen, Eric Jones, Megan Allen, Jacob Allen, Evan Jones, and Madison Allen—and her great-grandchild, Liam Ford, brought her immense joy. She adored her role as a granny, treasuring every moment spent with them.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Allen; her parents, Loretta Snowden and Cornelius Lisanby; and her brother, James Ray. Their memory lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
A visitation to celebrate Mary’s life will be held on February 3, 2026, from 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM at Maraman Billings Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at the same location starting at 6:00 PM.
Mary Charlene Allen will be remembered for her unwavering spirit, loving heart, and the endless joy she brought to those around her. Her legacy of kindness will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends in the years to come.
