There will never be another in all of eternity like Larry Guy Meade. Born September 4, 1940 in the town of Tippecanoe, OH, he would often tear up thinking about how God could take a small town boy and use him the way He had. He was son, husband, uncle, father-in-law, pastor, missionary, mentor, friend, confidant, grandad, and most importantly Father. Eternally now a child of God. He loved sports; golf, baseball (the Red’s), The Ohio State Buckeye’s, UofL and Mayfield Cardinals, most recently North Laurel County sports and had converted to become a UK…no…a Reed Shepherd fan. His heart for people was enormous. He generously gave of his time, finances, and prayers. He fiercely loved his family, whether blood or by relationship. If you could have peeked into the morning of every day of his life you would have found him face down on his office floor crying out to God for every member by name, petitioning God for their personal needs and salvation. While waiting patiently for his own grandchildren, he became a grandfather to so many others, both here at home and in India. He had an adventurous spirit and was not going to be tied down. There is no way to calculate the miles he drove around the country preaching the gospel, visiting friends and family, driving to hospitals just to sit in the waiting room with people during their darkest times, and attending sporting events. He believed in this next generation and wasn’t afraid to challenge them to love Jesus, and they adored him. India was his passion, his purpose. He once responded, “of all the things I’ve done, I was born to serve in India.” For over 50 years he poured his life into preaching to those that had never heard the name of Jesus. He never saw himself as a discipler, and yet he quietly mentored countless pastors and young leaders simply by living Jesus in front of them. One Indian son said, “His skin may have been white, but his heart was Indian.” He was quite until he started talking about Jesus and India, then he was passionate! When that quiet man began to get revved up in the pulpit talking about the greatness of God, it wasn’t uncommon for him to kick up that one leg for powerful emphasis! And oh the stories he’d tell about India, sharing the powerful miracles he had seen and heard throughout the years. He motivated several people towards the mission field, most of whom are still serving today. While he himself was a missionary, he financially supported many other missionaries. Quiet, humble, selfless, and dignified, he was a man among men. He loved his wife, his daughter most and his two granddaughters. They were the core of his heart. Someone once said they wished they could write a book about Larry’s life. That book has been written and the pages are scattered around the world in the lives of hundreds of thousands of people touched in one way or another by Larry’s love. Echoing the words of John regarding Jesus in John 21:25 “…(he)did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”
