John J. Sherlock, born on February 3, 1942, in Newport, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully at his home on May 29, 2025. He was 83 years old.
A proud military veteran, John served his country honorably as a Retired 1st Sergeant in the Army. His distinguished service included receiving the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, and several other recognition medals and ribbons throughout his career. John was an active member of both the American Legion Post 157 and the VFW Post 5710, where he fostered camaraderie among fellow veterans. He also served 8 years as a volunteer firefighter with Southeast Bullitt Fire Department.
After completing his military service, John transitioned to a career as a truck driver with Inner Plant Systems, where he dedicated years ensuring the logistics of transportation were met with his characteristic professionalism and commitment.
John leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory. He is survived by his sons, John H. Sherlock and his wife Christy, Michael D. Sherlock and his significant other Joan Shelton, and Stephen D. Sherlock and his wife Shannon. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Abbigail Lichtefeld (Logan), Madison Sherlock (James), Gage Sherlock (Ashlyn), Payten Sherlock, Jonathan McClanahan (Rachel), Ashley McClanahan (Brock), Ben Redman (Kayla), Chris Harvey (Kelsey), Daelyn Wright (Jon), and Brandon Maney, as well as ten great-grandchildren, with two more on the way.
John is predeceased by his beloved wife, Joyce Sherlock; his mother, Anne Caverzasi; his father, John Sherlock; his stepdaughter, Jennifer L. DeVore; and his siblings, Judy, Nancy, and Linton.
Visitation services for John will be held at Maraman Billings Funeral Home in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. The first visitation is scheduled for Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 4 PM to 8 PM, followed by another visitation on Friday, June 6, 2025, from 9 AM to 12:30 PM. The funeral service will take place on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 12:30 PM, immediately followed by the burial at Brookland Cemetery at 2 PM.
John J. Sherlock will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family and country, as well as for the profound impact he had on the lives of those who knew and loved him. His absence will be deeply felt.
