Ira Damon Hatcher of Shepherdsville, KY passed away at his home on June 9, 2026, with family at his side. Born October 5, 1935, in Summers County, West Virginia, to Henry Lee Darcy Hatcher and Lily Emiline (McKinney) Hatcher; he was 90 years old. Whether known as daddy, Ira, Damon or Mr. Hatcher; he was well known by everyone as a skilled mechanic; as someone that liked a good joke or prank but never forgot his beloved West Virginia roots. He was Missionary Baptist by faith and often spoke of his belief in the King James Bible.
Mr. Hatcher moved to Louisville around 1956 and married his wife of 65 years, Jessie Faye (Stamper) Hatcher on June 16, 1958. He entered the US Army in 1958 and served until honorably discharged in 1960 where he remained on active reserve during Vietnam. Prior to retiring, he and his wife owned DJ Trucking, and he worked as a mechanic foreman at Cummins Diesel.
He was preceded in death by his Wife, Jessie Faye Hatcher; Daughter, Sherry Mae Hatcher; Son, Damon Wayne Hatcher; Grandson, Levi Patrick King; Mother, Lily E Hatcher; Father, Henry Hatcher; Sisters, Willa Reed, Fran Stamper, Rita Marion; and Brothers, Denver Hatcher and Ivan Hatcher.
Ira is survived by his Son Charles Hatcher of Bardstown KY and Daughter Rebecca (David) Milleson of Riverton WY. Eleven Grandchildren, Joel Anthony Robinson, William Harley (Tammy) McCubbins, Damon Wayne (Kristie) Hatcher, Samantha (Andrew) Hatcher, Amanda (Julia) Drahn, Maurice Wayne King, Katie (Sam) Linden, Hally R. (Baylor) Beers, Kelsey (AJ) Milleson, Aubrey Milleson, and Dylan Hatcher. 18 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4-8pm on Friday June 12 and Funeral Services at 11am on Saturday June 13, 2026 at Maraman Billings Funeral Home 605 Preston Hwy Shepherdsville KY 40165. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery 187 Deatsville Rd Shepherdsville, KY 40165.
