Freddie Emerson Sadler, Jr.

Freddie Emerson Sadler, Jr., of Bardstown, Kentucky, passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born on June 1, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Mr. Sadler built a life marked by hard work, dedication, and deep love for his family. A proud truck driver, he spent more than 50 years behind the wheel. He carried on the family business with F.E. Sadler & Son's Truck Line, making the daily run from Shepherdsville to Louisville. He was known for his passion for the work and for the remarkable skill he brought to it. His precision and control made him a standout in Semi-Rodeo competitions, where he was known to dominate with his unmatched ability to maneuver a rig. He even raced a semi at Ohio Valley Racing, a fitting reflection of both his confidence and talent, and he later drove for Over Night Trucking, providing nationwide freight delivery. For those who knew and loved him, one familiar and cherished sound was the horn he always blew each time he passed the house.

Beyond his work, Freddie was a man whose heart belonged to his family. He loved them more than life itself, and visits from his grandchildren always brought a smile to his face. Trucks were always a favorite subject, and he could talk about them nonstop. He had a playful spirit and a style all his own—not a smoker, but often seen chewing on a cigar. He was always ready to help with anything he could, and his sense of humor made him unforgettable. A jokester by nature, he gave people random nicknames, calling Duwayne “Will” and Bubba “Butch.” Even his daughters’ puppies, Bailey and Maple, found a special place with him as his lapdogs and constant companions, affectionately nick-named Bill-Bailey and Dexter.

He was also proud to be a member of the Zoneton Masonic Lodge and the Kosair Shriners, organizations that reflected values of fellowship and service that were important to him.

Freddie is survived by his daughters, Donna Smith and her husband Bubba, Cathy Bowman and her husband Duwayne, and Kristy JoAnn Sadler; by his brother, Roger Sadler and his wife Denise; by his grandchildren, Ray, Charles, Tabitha, Brittany, Katie, Dylan, and Sam; 17 great-grandchildren; and by his nephews, Aaron Sadler and Roger Sadler. He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Rodgers; his father, Freddie Sadler, Sr.; and Diana Sadler.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Maraman Billings Funeral Home, 605 Preston Highway, Shepherdsville, Kentucky. The funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Bro. Carl Thomas. Freddie will be laid to rest with his parents at Hebron Cemetery in Shepherdsville at a later date.

Freddie Emerson Sadler, Jr. will be remembered for the life he built, the roads he traveled, the laughter he shared, and the devotion he gave so freely to those around him. His memory will remain in the hearts of his family and friends who knew the warmth of his smile, the strength of his character, and the unmistakable sound of his passing horn.
