Ellen Pearl Correa, whose radiant spirit and love for life touched the hearts of everyone around her, passed away on August 9, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 82. Born on October 27, 1942, in Wise, Virginia, Ellen's journey through life was marked by her intelligence, cheerfulness, and an unwavering focus on cherishing the good times.

Ellen was not only a devoted family member but also a talented poet who shared her gift with the world through her published works. Her love for words reflected her vibrant personality and the joy she found in expressing herself. Beyond her literary pursuits, Ellen dedicated 20 years of her life to civil service, proudly serving for 13 years at Fort Knox and 7 years at the Orlando Naval Base. Her commitment and diligence in her work were admired by many, and left a lasting impact on those she served alongside.

Ellen's vibrant personality extended well beyond her career and passion for poetry. She had an adventurous spirit that led her to love the beach, embark on cruises, and travel to wondrous places, creating beautiful memories along the way. Each trip was a new opportunity for adventure, where she would embrace the joy of life, the beauty of nature, and the warmth of human connections.

She leaves behind her beloved son, Roger Metras, and his wife, Wanda; her cherished grandchildren, Ross Metras and Loren Bergner (TJ); and her adored great-grandchildren, Alexis, Mason, Hunter, Bailey, and Barrett. The joy she derived from her family was evident in every interaction, as she relished in their milestones and celebrated the love that bound them together.

Ellen is now reunited in eternal peace with her parents, Walter Jessee and Minnie Freeman, along with her siblings Thurman, Bill, John, Paul, Emmitt, Charles, Bobbie, Charlotte, Jean, and Nancy. Their absence, felt deeply by all who knew her, is a testament to the profound connections forged through shared love and memory.

As we gather to honor her life, friends and family are invited to a visitation at Maraman Billings Funeral Home in Shepherdsville, KY, on August 15, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a heartfelt funeral service officiated by Bro. Mark Veatch beginning at 1:00 PM.

Ellen Pearl Correa will always be remembered for her loving heart, her poetic spirit, and the joy she brought to everyone fortunate enough to be in her presence. Her legacy will continue to inspire, reminding us all to focus on the beauty of life and the goodness that surrounds us.
