David Anthony Oerther, born October 17, 1953, in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2026, in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. David’s life was defined by commitment to his family, his craft, and his community.
A master in his profession, David dedicated himself to a career as a plumber, earning the respect of peers and apprentices alike. Beyond his professional skill, he extended his knowledge to others by serving as a teacher for the plumbing apprenticeship at Local 502, shaping future generations in the trade with patience and insight. His willingness to share his expertise reflected his enduring generosity and desire to help those around him build better lives.
David’s passions stretched beyond work. He found great joy in the outdoors, often spending time hunting, fishing, and tending to his beloved garden—a testament to his appreciation for nature’s beauty and tranquility. An avid outdoorsman, he gave further back to his community as a 4H instructor and a dedicated teacher of hunter safety, ensuring that these traditions and skills would continue to be cherished by those who came after him.
Family was at the heart of everything David did. He was a loving husband and loving father, and most importantly a loving Pawpaw to his grandchildren. His wife Sandy survives him, holding dear the 49 years they spent by each other’s side. David’s memory will live on in his son Joshua and daughter-in-law Brittany, his sister Anita Girton and brother-in-law Dave, his sister Mary Spalding, his brother Charlie Oerther and sister-in-law Gail, his sister Kathy Parella and bother-in-law Jim, and his grandchildren Alex and Mikayla Oerther. David was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Dorothy Oerther, whose influence and guidance helped shape the man he became.
For all who knew him, David’s legacy is one of compassion, service, and steadfast love. Whether sharing his skills with eager learners, nurturing his garden, or delighting in time spent with family, he lived each day with purpose and generosity.
