NEWMAN, Clara Jane
Clara Jane Newman of Shepherdsville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2026, in her 100th year.
Born on July 29, 1926, in Shepherdsville, Clara devoted her life to her community. She taught high school mathematics in Jefferson County from 1948 until her retirement, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students.
A lifelong member of Davidson Memorial United Methodist Church, which she joined in 1938, Clara faithfully taught adult Sunday school for many years, sharing her love of scripture.
Clara enjoyed nature and took pleasure in her walks at the Bernheim Forest and was proud to be their oldest member.
She is survived by her niece and nephew, Susan Stepien (Rick) and Timothy (Ndella) Dugdale; great-nieces and nephews Allison Stepien, Graham (Joy) Stepien, Kai Dugdale, and Thierno Dugdale; and great-great nephew Elliot Stepien. Clara was deeply grateful for the loving care provided by her wonderful caregivers.
Visitation will take place Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 9:30am until 10:45am at Maraman Billings Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be conducted at Davidson United Methodist Church beginning at 11am. Services will be officiated by Pastor Beverly Maguffee. Burial to follow in Hebron Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Clara’s honor to Davidson United Methodist Church at 265 S. Buckman St. Shepherdsville, KY 40165 or Bernheim Forest and Arboretum at PO BOX 130 Clermont, KY 40110, or Bernheim.org
