Charles “Donnie” Dickson, born on July 3, 1949, in Glasgow, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2025, at Norton Audubon Hospital. He lived a life marked by dedication, service, and unwavering love for his family.
Donnie dutifully served in law enforcement, dedicating his career to both the Hillview Police Department and Bullitt County Detention Center. In addition to his law enforcement career, he honorably served in the United States Army. His commitment to service exemplified his strong character and sense of duty.
A man of many passions, Donnie enjoyed assembling model cars and indulging in slot car racing. His competitive spirit was often displayed as he raced cars at the Fairgrounds Motor Speedway and avidly followed NASCAR. A proud supporter of the Louisville Cardinals, he balanced his love for sports with other hobbies, including woodworking and keeping his home and yard immaculately maintained. Donnie had a natural talent for everything he pursued, and he took pride in the life he built for his family.
Beyond his hobbies, Donnie was known for his vibrant personality and infectious humor. He had an extraordinary ability to bring joy to those around him, ensuring laughter filled the room wherever he went. His affinity for Batman only added to his whimsical nature, as he often joked about his secret identity, Donnie and Batman were never to be seen in the same place at the same time. Donnie was the Batman.
Donnie was deeply devoted to his family, always placing them first. He cherished every moment spent with his beloved spouse, Nancy Shindler Dickson, and their children: Dawn Hensley (Paul Hensley), Melissa Smith (Bradley Smith), and Rachel Day (Joseph Day). He was a proud grandfather to Destiny Sparks (Jen Beavers), Katrina Cummings (Jose), Dakota Sparks, Taylor Smith, Kaleigh Smith (Charles Smith), Dylan Smith, and Savannah Day, as well as a cherished great-grandfather to Chase, Jaramiah, Kaylee, Olivia, Julian, Kolten, Landon, Noah, Grayson, Conner, Brayden, and Cainen. He found immense joy in being surrounded by his family, and his love for animals, especially dogs, added another layer of warmth to his life.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Beulah Clark and Robert Dickson, who instilled in him the values he carried throughout his life. He was a Baptist by faith, which served as a cornerstone of his existence.
