Carolyn Mattingly, born on March 14, 1944, in Louisville, KY, entered eternal rest on July 14, 2025, at her home, surrounded by loved ones. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Carolyn's selflessness and unwavering commitment to her family were hallmarks of her character. As someone who consistently placed the needs of others above her own, she leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by those who knew her.
Raised in the nurturing presence of her parents, Bertha Wilson and Egbert Dial, Carolyn developed a deep sense of compassion and generosity, qualities that she would carry throughout her life. She shared her life with her husband, Larry Mattingly, with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage. Together, they built a loving family that stands strong in their shared memories.
Carolyn worked in retail sales for many years, embracing her role with a warmth that made each customer feel appreciated. Her passion for cooking was an extension of her caring nature, as she delighted in preparing meals for family gatherings. She was also known for her creativity, finding joy in sewing, making beautiful quilts and blankets that are now treasured keepsakes for her loved ones. Carolyn had perseverance, she was fighter, she battled cancer and won. During her battle she continued to be a rock for the family, her strength and determination made her a role model for future generations.
She is survived by her three devoted children: Michael Mattingly (Michelle), Melissa Mattingly, and Gregory Mattingly (Robin), who all carry forward her spirit of kindness and dedication. Carolyn was also blessed with numerous grandchildren: Blake Jackson (Valerie), Nathan Jackson (Marline), Jeff Jackson (Amy), Taylor Statton (Brandon), Dalton Wilson (Miranda), Dylan Mattingly, Mason Mattingly, Isabella Mattingly, and Jasper Mattingly, who will cherish her memory and the lessons she imparted. Adding to her family circle, she was a proud great-grandmother to Billy Jackson, Vivian Jackson, Gabriella Rios, Gracie Jackson, Matthew Wilson, Chandler Wilson, and Lincoln Stratton, who brought her immense joy.
Carolyn is also remembered by her brother, Eddie Dial (Ros), as well as the bonds she shared with her late siblings, sister Francis Downs and sister Shirley Long, who have already passed. Carolyn is also reunited with Larry Mattingly, Jr., her first child.
A woman of faith, Carolyn was a devoted member of the Catholic community, with her spirituality guiding her actions and interactions throughout her life.
Visitation will be held at Maraman Billings Funeral Home in Shepherdsville, KY, on July 18, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and again on July 19, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A funeral service will follow on the same day at 12:00 PM, with burial to take place at Highland Memory Gardens in Mount Washington.
Carolyn Mattingly's spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, reminding us all of the profound impact one life can have through love, compassion, and selflessness. She was indeed a remarkable person, a loving presence who enriched the lives of so many.
