Betty S. Baxter, a cherished member of the Cedar Grove community, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2026, in Shepherdsville. Born on September 10, 1946, in Washington County, Kentucky, Betty's life was one marked by dedication to family, education, and faith.
Throughout her years, Betty was a devoted member of the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where she nurtured her spiritual life and strengthened community bonds. Her commitment to education was evident in her leadership as the former president of the Cedar Grove Elementary PTA, where she tirelessly worked to enrich the learning environment for children and families. Betty also generously contributed her time to assist students with reading at Bullitt Central High School, fostering a love of literacy and learning that would benefit countless young minds.
Betty’s loving spirit extended into her family life. She is survived by her daughter, Lisia E. Baxter Ray, and Lisia’s companion, Ernie Tinnell, who carry forward her legacy with devotion. She also leaves behind her sister, Rita Sutherland, and Rita’s husband, Danny, along with grandchildren Lorrisia Ray with her partner Sawyer Redden, and Draken Ray. Betty’s great-grandchildren, Natalie, Olivia, and Victoria, were a source of immense joy to her, and her influence will undoubtedly resonate through their lives.
Her passing follows that of dear family members who preceded her, including her husband, Robert W. Baxter; her son, Robert B. Baxter; her parents, Cora and Cecil Cornish; and her sister, Jeannie Smith. Their memories remain entwined with hers, a testament to the enduring bonds of love and family.
Betty S. Baxter’s life was a beacon of kindness, service, and community spirit. Her contributions to education and faith, coupled with the deep affection she held for her family, paint the portrait of a woman whose impact will be felt for generations to come. She will be remembered with profound respect and love by all who knew her.
Her funeral will be Tuesday April 7, 2026 at Maraman-Billings Funeral Home in Shepherdsville with entombment to follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Monday April 6, 2026 from 3:00 p.m. Until 7:00 p.m. and Tuesday after 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
